Byzantine Chain Maille Bracelet
Materials: 6 to 8 mm - 16 to 18 gauge jump rings, a mix of argentium silver and gold filled, 14 x 10 mm sterling silver infinity clasp, gold filled lotus charm
Size: 5/8 “ or 7.5 mm wide
Length: Fits wrist size 7-1/2 to 8-1/4 inch
Something new on my work bench that was just introduced to me by my friends. Whom graciously are teaching me their skills in weaving Chain Maille. I have learned that Chain Maille is an ancient construction made by linking jump rings together to form a fabric mesh. In the medieval days of past the blacksmiths discovered this light weight fabric mesh offered a much better alternative to the heavier, stiffer traditional plate armor worn at the time……Over time this weaving has been altered in varying designs and adopted for use in jewelry!
As I continue to learn the different weaves, I can foresee that experience will lend itself to new inspiration in ways I can incorporate my beads into the mesh. Stay tuned…..And alas, enjoy this unique and traditional byzantine weave!
This byzantine weave is delicately linked and woven alternately with heavy gauge argentium silver and gold filled jump rings. A wide infinity clasp for the 1” extension. Completed with a swaying gold filled lotus.
