Inspired by Nature —Crafted by Hand

I grew up with a strong attraction to glass! My fascination grew from seed bead weaving to stained glass. Eventually I was introduced to the world of Hot Glass, which immediately caught my interest.

My hot glass adventure started in Santa Fe, New Mexico where I began my apprenticeship working in a glassblowing studio/gallery. While most of the glassblowers practiced blowing large pieces, my interests followed a different direction. To my surprise and probably “concern” at the time, my glass pieces progressively became smaller and smaller. I realized working with small amounts of glass worked for me and I eventually developed a line of hand blown miniature perfume bottles and vases!

This soon led to working on a bead torch where I taught myself how to make glass beads. Torching beads is a much more efficient and smaller studio set up. The size and mobility of it allowed me to pack up my studio and move to the island of Hawaii 23 years ago, where I was able to set up my own studio on my property.

Here on the slopes of Mauna Kea surrounded by the lush tropical terrain, I am inspired to continue my glass work. Blowing glass in my miniature studio set up…….torching glass beads….and experimenting with metal fabrication. I'm having fun following my muse in creating colorful jewelry with a whimsical flavor!

Glass + Aluminum

In addition to working with glass I have discovered the metal aluminum! It’s usually associated with cans and industrial equipment but I’ve found it's a great addition to the jewelry world. It can be quite malleable but toughens up to strength. It lends itself to texture and detail easily. Aluminum is nickel-free and hypoallergenic. It doesn’t tarnish….a plus when you live by the ocean! It has that beautiful silvery, chrome surface….. I think one of the biggest benefits for me is how light weight it is to wear….large statement pieces are less weighty and a breeze to adorn yourself with!
